TRAINEE CATEGORIES,1. BEGINNER/NOVICE, 2. HANDLER, 3. SKILLED TRAINER
1. BEGINNERS, THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO PAY ATTENTION, MONITOR AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU NEED TO SAY TO THE BIRDS AND WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR FROM THEM. THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGBED TO HELP YOU SPEAK WORDS OR MAKE AUDITORY SOUNDS TO A PARROT IN A WAY THAT MAKES IT EASIER FOR THE BIRD TO LEARN AND UNDERSTAND YOUR MEANING. BE AWARE OF YOUR VERBLIZATIONS AND YOUR MOTIVES.TO THE ANIMAL. WHAT TOPICS/SUBJECT MATTER ARE YOU COMPELLED TO DELIVER BY MOUTH. OBSERVE YOURSELF AND SREAMLINE YOUR COMUNICATION TO THE BIRD WITH JUST A FEW WORDS.
BEGINNERS IF YOU ARE NOT CAPABLE OF FOLLOWING ORDERS TO SIMPLFY YOUR BABBLE THEN TAPE YOUR MOUTH SHUT AND USE YOUR EYES TO CRITICALLY OBSERVE THE BIRD AS IT COMMUNICATES TO YOU WITH THEIR SOUND AND MOVEMENT, DO MINIMAL TALKING IN ORDER TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE PARROT! THE BIRD IS COMMUNICATING TO YOU ALL HE TIME!
GOAL BUILD TRUST
GOAL INTRODUCTION TEACH A BIRD TO FEEL CONFORTABLE AROUND YOU AS NEWCOMER WHEN YOU PHYSICLLY ADVANCE TOWARDS THEM AND SINGLE THEM OUT WITH EYE CONTACT AND NAME, GIVE THEM THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN THEIR NAMES BY SAYING THEIR NAME AS YOU APPROACH "LUCY" or "BATMAN"
TEACH THEM TO GENTLY ACCEPT FOOD FROM YOU A STRANGR HELP THEM IDENTIFY THEIR FAVORITE FOOD AND WHAT IT IS CALLED. BY SAYING WALNUT, PINE NUT. APPLE SAUCE
GOAL . Use protective contact that means bird is in cage.
GOAL BEGINNER INIATES FRIENDSHIP WITH PARROT BY FEEDING THEM SOMETHING THEY LIKE TO EAT. Beginner HS opportunityfamiliarizes themselves with each parrot calling them by name and luring the bird to come to them for a food or treat they really like. Beginners discover each parrot's favorite food. It is ok if parrot sees the lure/food/treat visible in a bowl or handheld. It is OK for beginner to drop treat in food bowl in cage if parrot or trainer is fearful. If offered by hand or fingertips, make sure bird takes it gently. Do not to get bitten. Offer baby food like applesauce food in syringe. Soft touch required on syringe tip. It is OK and preferble to call the bird by name, and say name of treat like walnut pinenut etc., or apple sauce. eginners hve the oportunity to teach the bird their name and the names of several food items. Say the word at exact point of contact when bird takes treat in beak,
Beginners Target Training Use protective contact that means Bird is in Cage. Use loud dog clicker. Put tip of target stick barely in the cage as close as the possible to parrot. Desired behavior is parrot moves towards target stick and touches it lightly with tongue or beak. When Bird touches lightly trainer clicks, treat follows. Clicker is the only sound for a reason. it is a non emotional sound.
Once the bird has perfected nearby stationary target/clicker soft touch training, teach bird to move and follow the stick by entering it at different locations in the cage so the bird has to move about up, down, front, back to touch stick and get treated. No talking just sounds of clicker. This requires patience, observation and a willingness for Beginner to share and describe the behavior you have witnessed YOUR BEHAVIOR and the birds behavior. Beginner must be willing to share their observations questions brainstorms with group and or Holly, Michele or Nancy
MIDDLE When Beginner feels competent with the first part and their bird/birds are fully compliant and perhaps you and the bird are feeling a bit bored you may find yourself adding things to the routine. Introducing your personality, your creativity your hunches your experiments your desires. Time to recognize this as a important juncture. STOP it is time to reaccess training with Holly, Michele or Nancy.
ADVANCED
TRAINING BEHAVIOR, MIDDLE TRAINING BEHAVIOR AND ADVANCED TRAINING BEHAVIOR. THIS MEANS THE TRAINING RECRUIT IS REQUIRED TO TRAIN IN THE SAME ENVIROMENT AND IN THE SAME TIME FRAME I AM ASKING THEM TO USE MY EXACT WORDING, TIMING AND INFLECTION.AND SPARCE EXPLICIT ENGLISH LANGUAFGE. AT THE BEGINNING OF THEIR CO TRAINING WITH ME. THIS MEANS NO CONSTANT TREAM OF CONSCIOUSNS OR AUDIBLE VERBAL DIALOGUE TO THE BIRDS WHEN TRAINING. THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TASK FOR EVERYONE. WHEN CLICKER TRAINING BIRDTHE ONLY SOUND IS THAT OF THE CLICKER! REASON MORE CLARITY LESS CLUTTER FOR THE BIRDS AND IT IS A WAY FOR ME TO BUILD TRUST IN THE NEW TRAINER, I AM ACCESSING THEIR ATTENTION SPAN, MEMORY, NEED FOR CONTROL AND THEIR WILLINGNES TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS, THERE INVARIBLY COMES A TIME WHEN THE TRAINEE BEGINS TO INSERT THEIR PERSONALITY, CREATIVITY AND STYLE OF TRAINING INTO THE LESSON. THAT IS THE TIME I NEED TO HALT THEM AND POINT OUT THIS IS HAPPEBINGIF NECESSARY OR HAVE A NEW CONVRSATUON GRANTING THEM PERMISSION TO GO FORWARD.
